June 8, 1976 Postcard from Athens

This was my first postcard home. It is Athens: Square of Syntagma and shows the Parliment.
I drew an arrow to show the King's Palace Hotel where I was staying. And an arrow for the gardens I enjoyed. I'm inserting some of my slides of things I referenced in the postcard.(maybe I'll get better at doing blog layout...maybe not) You can click on the pictures to see them larger.

Hi! Doing great after a doubtful start(rain drops). Paris (what I could see in the airport was neat. I asked the washroom attendant what time it was. Get report from Grandmother.
(I asked, "Quel heure est il?" and she said,"Huite heures moins dix.")
(This was a public phone in Charles DeGaul Airport. )
Translation is everything! Chanel perfume in a plastic sphere was very exotic. So this is Paris!

Got to Athens at 6:35 (7 hours ahead of the USA). Took a nice Audi taxi to here. View of acropolis from the roof garden. I’m in 717. Small view of parliament. Can see 1 guard. Saw them change. Up too late for breakfast. Walked around. Found Am Ex. Found good tour place. Today went to Sounion and met 3 girls Barbie, Evien and Wendy. Barbie was on a dig in Israel last year. Evien is from NY and works for a publisher and Wendy is going to teach Social studies in Lewiston-Auburn. We’re going to the Sound & Light tonight. One meal a day is enough. I get hungry when I’m sleeping I guess. I’m hearing so many languages that English is hard to say. Walked in the gardens with the orange trees this morning. Ever seen a baby goat? Bo’s’n is a close shot. Tomorrow Delphi. Thursday Hydra, Poros and Aegina. Having fun! "
